After a couple of my pencils broke off at the top, due to squishing my kit into an overpacked bag, I decided to get these and they work great.

Actually, I probably could have lived without it. But, like the Sendaks, it makes life a little better. I was putting tools in the Tall Mini I ordered without one, and I thought, “Gee, now I see why they offer those.” I contemplated what I could make to use instead, but I figured a cut-up cereal box wouldn’t have the panache that my Sendak deserved, and it would take time for me to make. The Peg & Awl tool protector looks nice, feels nice, slips in easily, and does protect fragile tips on my tools. It also keeps flat things flat, like paper and a thin plastic ruler. The rounded corners help it slide into the pocket smoothly and don’t catch on fingers or anything at the top—I suspect they will keep the board from splitting as quickly as it might with right-angle corners. The just-right thickness adds tightness to the pockets to help keep my thin-handled brushes upright in place. I did almost subtract a star because I think they’re a bit pricy if you purchase them alone, but, after arguing with myself a while, I decided that they do their job and are convenient, and that’s what I should rate them on.

I havent started using this yet as it only arrived a coupleof days ago but I love how it looks & feels.
